Sanchez Rewarded for his Determination

Infielder Freddy Sanchez of the Pittsburgh Pirates was given the 17th Tony Coingliaro Award for overcoming adversity through spirit, determination, and courage. Sanchez was born with a club right foot and a severely pigeon-toed left foot which required him to have surgery and lots of rehab to learn how to walk and run. Sanchez overcame all of this to lead the National League with a .344 batting average last season for the Pirates.

With the way the Pittsburgh Pirates have been playing in recent years I guess it wouldn't hurt to start watching the the Boston Red Sox every fifth game to watch pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka from Japan.
